Adele, Wendy, and Jennifer just wanted to enjoy their spring break with a little camping trip to the mountains. While exploring, they found a lake, untouched by any signs of human encroachment, except for the sign.
It said "no swimming," but the lake looked safe enough. Rules were for other people anyway. They could do whatever they wanted!
But, unbeknownst to them, their splashing and laughing disturbed the arcane toad that lived beneath the lake. A territorial beast, it responded to them the same way it did to anything that bothered it: by spewing its magical breath at them.
The girls tried to get away, but purple gas quickly enveloped them. Within moments, the girls were gone, leaving behind only their swimming suits and a trio of warty toads croaking at the shore's edge. With nothing out of the ordinary to disturb it, the arcane toad returned to the lake to resume its nap.
The park ranger would find their swimming suits a few weeks later, after the girls were reported missing. He didn't bother to tell anyone though. Who'd believe him if he did? Besides, if people couldn't follow the signs that he had put up for their own protection, it wasn't that big of a loss.
