Something happened to Beast Boy after he transformed into a giant green Starro (or Garro as he called himself) and defeated an evil space monster, the Necrostar. Suddenly, the Titans had lost contact with Beast Boy, and he had turned and headed towards Earth, releasing a swarm of starfish-shaped spores that entered people's mouths, turning them into violent anthropomorphic creatures.
Wonder Woman had been part of the group of heroes in space helping fight the Necrostar, but after Beast Boy’s spores began to transform people, she returned to Earth to aid her people in Themyscira.
Flying towards Themyscira, Wonder Woman saw a congregation of people on the beach. As she got closer, she noticed a battalion of Amazon warriors fighting anthropomorphic sea creatures invading the beach along with Beast Boy spores, which were still falling from the sky. By the time Wonder Woman flew above the beach, most of the Amazons had been transformed into shark creatures clawing their way across the beach and disappearing into the ocean.
One of the Amazons on the beach saw Wonder Woman in the air and gestured at her to go further inland to help the fight just before she, too, was infected by a Beast Boy spore.
As Wonder Woman flew further in, she helped her Amazon sisters as she headed towards the city of Themyscira. The further inland Wonder Woman went, the better organized the Amazon soldiers were at dealing with their transformed sisters. Within the city, the soldiers wore helmets that protected their mouths and used long-reaching weapons such as spears to ensure the spores did not get too close. Within the city, Wonder Woman saw the soldiers using nets to tie up anyone who had transformed into a beast and tied their mouths shut to prevent the Beast Boy spores from leaving their bodies and infecting another person. She watched as the soldiers dragged the transformed people towards Mount Tartarus.
“Diana,” a familiar voice cried out to Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman looked around and saw one of her mother's old friends, Philippus, standing by a hole in the ground with a group of Amazons. Wonder Woman flew down to Philippus and asked, “Where’s Queen Nubia?” Philippus pointed to the other side of the island, where clouds of chaos were swirling.
“A force of chaos is taking advantage of the current situation, and Nubia is working with other heroes to stop it.”
Wonder Woman saw some Amazon soldiers drag one of the animal hybrids past her and Philippus and throw it into the hole nearby.
“What are they doing?” Wonder Woman asked Philippus.
“There is not enough room in our prison to keep all our transformed sisters,” Philippus replied. “So we are putting them in the labyrinths under Mount Tartarus until we can find a way to cure them.”
Wonder Woman thought this might be the best solution for the time being. Looking down the hole, she could already see the ravenous beast trying to claw its way back up, only to be pushed down by the Amazons around it.
“How can I help?” Wonder Woman asked Philippus.
“We lost a strong warrior at the start of this battle, which has now turned on us,” Philippus replied as she put her hand on Wonder Woman's shoulder. “Diana, I need you to deal with Artemis.”
